z/OS (MVS) Operations Advanced

This class introduces students to the advanced techniques used to operate OS/390 MVS systems. A series of written and lab exercises will be used to reinforce the lecture material.
GOALS
- Configure and manage consoles and hardcopy logs.
- Display and manage devices and the channel subsystem, page datasets, SVC and standalone dumps, traces, SMF, system address spaces, and SMS.
- Manage advanced facilities of JES2 including JES2 spool volumes, JES2 spool offload facility, and JES2 automatic commands.
- Execute the proper procedure to start up and shut down the OS/390 MVS system.
- Review of message flows during startup and shutdown.
- Explain recommended console responses.
